What is new at Facebook ? Facebook users can now attach photos to comments

Facebook users can now attach photos to comments

Facebook Coment Image

"The social network quietly launched a new feature Wednesday that lets users attach a photo when commenting on status updates. The tool appears to enable JPEG and PNG image files to be uploaded and inserted. Although animated GIFs can be uploaded, they'll display like a still image. Although not a direct stab at Twitter, the feature will give users an easy way to crowd-source images – something Twitter users have been able to do for a while. Facebook also introduced hashtags, another popular feature for Twitter users. And on Thursday, Facebook will hold an event at which it will reportedly bring video-sharing to the photo-sharing app Instagram. Vine, a video-sharing mobile application owned by Twitter, has rocketed to popularity since launching in January. On Wednesday, Twitter acquired Spindle, an iPhone app that enables users to see status updates from businesses near their current location."

Facebook comment threads are apparently a bit too calm, so the social network company's decided to mix things up with the addition of in-line image embeds starting today. But wait -- put down the link to your hottest GIF -- apparently the service only supports static images for now. And not everyone has it thus far, with the service only rolling out to folks who have a camera icon appear in the comment response field.
The functionality is rolling out on both web and mobile versions of Facebook; product engineer Bob Baldwin debuted the addition on his Facebook profile, where he said he built the image embedding "at a hackathon" with a gaggle of other FBers. Let us know in the comments below if you've already got it, and leave some pictures on the technology Facebook page!

Blackberry Z10 News and Tricks

Cheat on your iOS or Android device with this BlackBerry 10 OS tour

The BlackBerry Z10 is now attainable on three outta the four big US carriers, leading many to wonder what a BB10 phone would be like. Well, if you haven't had a chance to fondle the handset in-store, Heins & Co's got another way for you to (somewhat) experience the OS through its "glimpse" website. Load it up in the browser of your iOS or Android device, and it'll take you through a linear tour of some of the gestures and ways to multitask, as well as show you the BlackBerry Hub, BBM and Time Shift camera feature. It's far from a full emulation, but at least you'll be a little more informed at the end of it. Point your portable's browser at the source link to see what we mean.

iOS vs. Windows Phone: Microsoft Outsells Apple and BlackBerry OS in 26 Markets | MLB polishes At Bat 13 on iOS and Android ahead of Opening Day, brings app to BlackBerry Z10

Microsoft's mobile smartphones are outselling Apple's iOS and BlackBerry OS, according to a Microsoft executive.

In a blog post, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Corporate Communication Frank X. Shaw wrote about Microsoft's developments in the past season and what's ahead in the future.

"From where I sit, it's busy both ways," wrote Shaw.

Noting that they have launched a "wave of incredible devices and services," Shaw said the return numbers are encouraging.

Based on early numbers, Windows Phone has reached 10 percent market share in several countries. According to Shaw, citing the latest report from IDC, Microsoft has shipped more than BlackBerry in 26 markets. In comparison to Apple, Microsoft has shipped more in seven markets.

The specific markets were not disclosed.

"With a remarkable foundation of products in market and a clear view of how we will evolve the company, product leaders across Microsoft are working together on plans to advance our devices and services, a set of plans referred to internally as 'Blue," wrote Shaw, in regards of future plans.

Shaw did note the future Microsoft products are not guaranteed the name "Blue."

According to figures by NetMarketShare, Windows Phone has seen an increase in use. The Windows Phone operating system placed sixth with 1.24 percent of the February market share, up by 0.09 percent in January.

Apple's iOS accounted for 54.91 percent. Apple's percentage tops Android by more than double figures. Android placed second with 25.65 percent. Java ME rounded the top three with 12.38 percent.

With the 2013 season looming just around the corner, it's only natural for Major League Baseball to make sure its various applications on different platforms are all ready to go come this weekend. And as it did with MLB.tv on Xbox Live a couple days ago, MLB's now also updated the At Bat Android and iOS apps, leaving behind the spring training features from last month and making room for ones that are tailored for this year's Opening Day and forward. For subscribers, this means things such as multi-platform live audio, more video highlights, a virtual archive of classic games and a revamped news section within the apps. What's more, MLB has kept its promise of bringing At Bat 13 to the BB10 crowd, giving BlackBerry Z10 owners the ability to download the app starting today. Clearly, it's that time of the year again, that time where your Yankees-cheering friends tell you all about how A-Rod, when fit, is the best player in the game. Or, if they're Giants fans, how they really, really, hope the tale of Samson's hair won't apply to Tim Lincecum.

Apple iPhone News | T-Mobile hand shake with Apple iPhone | Apple iPhone Landing on T-Mobile April 12 for $99 Down | T-Mobile Adds iPhone, Announces Contract-Less Data Plan

For years T-Mobile has been the odd man out when it comes to offering the iPhone in the U.S. Not anymore: Today T-Mobile, billing itself as the “Uncarrier,” announced it would begin selling the iPhone 5 on its just-launched 4G LTE network beginning April 12.
T-Mobile is selling the iPhone starting at $99 up front, no contract, followed by 20 months of $20 payments on top of monthly pre-paid data plans. This is a sharp contrast to AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint, which all require two-year contracts after you purchase a subsidized iPhone. You can also purchase the iPhone at full price on T-Mobile and nix the $20 monthly fees.
In addition to the iPhone 5, T-Mobile will begin selling a number of other big-name 4G devices: the Samsung Galaxy S4, BlackBerry Z10, Samsung Galaxy Note II and HTC One. T-Mobile will also begin selling its own wireless hotspot, the Sonic 2.0 Mobile HotSpot LTE.
T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network will debut in seven major markets: Baltimore, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Jose, and Washington, D.C. It will cover 100 million Americans by mid-year, and double that by the end of 2013.
T-Mobile’s announcement wasn’t entirely unexpected. Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile’s parent company, confirmed in December that T-Mobile would begin selling Apple products in 2013. The carrier also announced that it would launch its 4G LTE network this year. And a report Monday indicated that the iPhone would play a prominent role in today’s “Uncarrier” event.
The iPhone originally launched as an exclusive with AT&T in 2007. Verizon began selling the iPhone 4 in January 2011, and Sprint began selling the iPhone with the launch of the 4S in uphill battle to retain subscribers. The carrier hopes that its “different” approach to selling Apple’s flagship handset — that is, with no contract and no subsidy, with customers merely making a small initial payment paired with charges on top of their monthly service plan.
Is it too little too late? Time will tell, but with each new iPhone that’s announced, it anecdotally seems that more and more are defecting from AT&T to Verizon and Sprint. Now T-Mobile can get a piece of that action, too.

T-Mobile’s new iPhone 5 – which is launching on the “uncarrier’s” network on April 12th – is the same model of the iPhone 5 that AT&T customers currently enjoy, except that it will be newer and feature AWS (or Advanced Wireless Services), a newer set of frequencies that T-Mobile is using for its LTE network.
T-Mobile’s version will have the same A1428 model number that AT&T offers, however, starting with the launch of T-Mo’s new contractless data and voice plans, the A1428 will be a new, tweaked version to allow it to run on AWS. AT&T’s A1428 doesn’t have AWS enabled, so even though the device will have the same model number as the current GSM for North America iPhone 5, it will by a physically different phone, at least internally.
Apple representatives confirmed to Engadget that enabling AWS is done at the hardware level and is not something that can be attained via a software patch or download. It also confirmed that all A1428s going forth would have AWS enabled, including those for AT&T, though if AT&T doesn’t enable it on its own network then its customers wouldn’t see any benefits from the change.
Interestingly, Apple also confirmed that the $99 T-Mobile iPhone 5 will ship totally locked until fully paid for, meaning a user could then easily swap an AT&T LTE-compatible SIM (or one from any other GSM provider) into the phone and still get LTE speeds, making it an attractive option for those who travel globally or have multiple accounts.

Samsung is about to launch new Galaxy Smart Phones | Samsung upcoming mobiles | Samsung planing to upgrade five devices to Android 5.0

Android is a constantly moving target for devices. The Android device you buy today will inevitably be running an old version in just a few months time. How important that is depends on the individual, but if you use a Samsung smartphone or tablet, you’ll be interested to know that a list of planned Android updates has just leaked, including which devices can expect to receive Android 5.0.
The pre-list, as it’s known, has been leaked to SamMobile by an insider. It shows which devices can expect to receive an update to Android 4.2.2 and the inevitable Android 5.0.
The just unveiled Galaxy S4 is set to ship with Android 4.2.2, but Samsung is planning to upgrade 17 devices to the current latest version of Google’s OS. Those devices include:

  • GT-I8160 – Galaxy Ace 2
  • GT-I8350 – Galaxy Beam
  • GT-I8730 – Galaxy Express
  • GT-S6810 – Galaxy Fame
  • GT-I9080 – Galaxy Grand
  • GT-I9082 – Galaxy Grand DUOS
  • GT-N7000 – Galaxy Note
  • GT-I9260 – Galaxy Premier
  • GT-I8190 – Galaxy S III mini
  • GT-I9070 – Galaxy S Advance
  • GT-I9100 – Galaxy S II
  • GT-I9105 – Galaxy S II Plus
  • GT-S6310 – Galaxy Young
  • GT-S6312 – Galaxy Young DUOS
  • GT-S7710 – Galaxy X Cover 2
It’s worth noting that for the above devices, that’s as far as Samsung expects to go in terms of updates. As soon as each one is running Android 4.2.2 the OS updates will stop. And by then, you’ll probably be looking around for a new device anyway.
Now we come to the unannounced Android 5.0. Samsung has decided that only variants of five of its existing devices will receive an update to Key Lime Pie. They include the Galaxy S3 $189.99 at Amazon Wireless , Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy 8.0, and Galaxy 10.1. In all cases, the LTE versions of the phones and tablets will get the update, as will the WiFi versions of the tablets.
As this is a pre-list that Samsung didn’t intend to make public, there’s every chance that the devices receiving updates will change before they are officially announced. But if Android updates are a major consideration when choosing to buy a new device, then one of the later Galaxy S smartphones or Galaxy tablets looks like a safe bet if you intend on investing now.
As for when we can expect to hear about Android 5.0, the safe bet is during the Google’s I/O developer conference held in May. By then, the Galaxy S4 will probably have been in the hands of consumers for about a month, and the question of when Samsung will roll out the Android 5.0 update is bound to be asked. It’s reassuring to see the company is already planning ahead.
